Seagems Expands Opportunities with New Hires for the Young Apprentice Program

Initiative has benefited over 170 young people since 2015 and reinforces social inclusion with training from elementary school to the job market

At the beginning of this year, Seagems hired 12 new participants for its Young Apprentice Program, reaffirming its commitment to social development and the nurturing of new talent. Currently, the company employs 35 young apprentices, seven of whom are persons with disabilities (PwD).

Launched in 2015, the program has directly impacted the lives of 173 young people, many of whom have been hired full-time and continue working at the company. The initiative is carried out in partnership with NGOs Viva Lagos and Viva Rio, both based in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and targets youth up to 24 years old, with a focus on those from public schools or socially vulnerable backgrounds. The partner organizations assist in the recruitment and selection process.

Early Education: Projects for Elementary and High School Students

Seagems’ involvement in youth education goes beyond professional training. The company runs a structured development path that begins in elementary school, notably with the Literary Award, organized by the Seagems do Bem committee in partnership with the Ministry of Culture. The award encourages students from 5th to 9th grade to write creatively, and the best texts are published in a book. This year marks the award’s sixth edition, which will be held for the second time in the city of Rio das Ostras.

In high school, another impactful initiative is the Seagems Educational Program, developed in partnership with the Rio das Ostras Municipal Department of Education. The program introduces students in the final year of public high school to a wide range of career paths in the offshore industry, helping broaden their perspectives, including lesser-known professions such as offshore nurses. It also opens the door for these students to apply for future Young Apprentice positions.

“We want to give young people a new outlook on the future—one that often seems distant from their current reality. That’s why we are committed to providing comprehensive training with a positive social impact,” says Flora Bastos, Seagems’ Recruitment & Selection Analyst and member of the Seagems do Bem committee.

Integrated Training: From the Classroom to the Corporate Environment

In January, 15 new young apprentices were hired, 12 of whom had previously participated in the high school educational project. The remaining hires came through a partnership with Associação Égide, an organization supporting families in vulnerable situations in Rio das Ostras.

“This sequential and integrated training is part of our social responsibility vision. We’re not just offering a job—we’re opening the door to a continuous cycle of learning and growth,” highlights Glaucia Maciel, Seagems’ HR Director.

The apprentices work in administrative roles at the company’s offices in Rio de Janeiro and Rio das Ostras, placed according to their profiles and skills. Departments include Human Resources, Engineering, Finance, Operations, Maintenance, ROV, Technical Support, and Supply Chain.

Inspiring Stories

Among the program’s success stories is Allan de Jesus Santos, a member of the first cohort, who was hired full-time as a Lay Operator and now works as an Offshore Electrician aboard the Topázio vessel.

“Seagems gave me the chance to experience things I never thought possible. I own my own home now, and I can travel whenever I want. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing,” he shares.

Jhadson Machado, 17, a recent addition to the program, sees the company as a gateway to building a career in the offshore industry. “I started in the ROV department, and I want to keep learning. My dream now is to work offshore and grow in this area,” he says.

Full Support for Development

In addition to a salary, apprentices receive food vouchershealth insurance, and access to all employee activities, including workplace exercise sessionsshiatsu therapydaily breakfast, and company events.

The training process also includes an e-learning platform offering introductory courses in areas such as launch operations and basic mechanics. Each apprentice is assigned a direct supervisor, undergoes regular evaluations, and receives ongoing support from the HR team.

“Our biggest challenge is finding young people who are culturally aligned with the company and preparing them for a professional environment. Many come in with school-based behaviors and need to adapt to the dynamics of the workplace. We are incredibly proud of the results we’ve seen,” says Flora Bastos.

How to Participate

Those interested in joining the program should apply through partner NGOs Viva Lagos and Viva Rio. Seagems maintains a talent pool and conducts regular evaluations for permanent hiring based on each participant’s performance and interest.

“By promoting educational and career development initiatives from the ground up, Seagems reinforces its commitment to the human and social development of the communities where we operate,” concludes Glaucia Maciel.
