Seagems expands social investments in the state of Rio de Janeiro and connects culture, environment, and technical training

Company linked to the offshore chain operates in the Northern Fluminense coastal region with initiatives ranging from support for the Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival to training public school youth

In a state that accounts for around 80% of Brazil’s oil production, according to the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP), local development initiatives gain strategic importance. With one of its operational bases located in Rio das Ostras, in the Lagos Region of Rio de Janeiro, Seagems has been expanding an agenda that connects culture, environmental sustainability, and technical training for public school students, areas directly linked to the region’s economic development.

This work becomes even more relevant from a state perspective: with an estimated GDP of R$ 1.3 trillion, Rio de Janeiro is Brazil’s second-largest economy, driven by extractive industries, especially oil and gas. In this context, initiatives that connect workforce qualification, the creative economy, and structured environmental practices help strengthen a development cycle aligned with the region’s demands and potential.

Culture and environment

The company’s initiatives range from sponsoring the Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival, considered the largest festival of its kind in Latin America and attracting more than 100,000 visitors per edition, to training programs focused on the oil and gas value chain, a sector that accounts for a large share of job opportunities in Northern Fluminense.

During the festival, produced by Azul Produções Artísticas and part of the city’s official calendar, Seagems also coordinates environmental management initiatives in partnership with local socio-environmental organizations, structuring actions for the collection, sorting, and proper disposal of waste generated throughout the event.

In the 2025 edition, these initiatives resulted in the recycling of 5.5 tons of waste, with a reuse rate exceeding 78%, in addition to offsetting approximately 10.5 tons of CO₂. At the end of the event, a cleanup effort was also carried out at Iriry Lagoon, one of the city’s most visited natural areas.

For 2026, a new initiative includes support for the Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival Band Contest, which will select a local group to perform on the festival’s main stage. The initiative engages artists, residents, and both national and international visitors, strengthening the creative economy and increasing the visibility of local talent.

During Carnival, which generated R$ 30 million in 2025, Seagems’ cultural agenda also includes support for Carna Jazz, a free event open to all ages that has already become part of the city’s cultural calendar.

Education and opportunity generation

On the education front, the company maintains the Seagems Educational Program, aimed at training public high school students with a focus on the demands of the oil and gas sector, one of the region’s main drivers of employability.

In its second edition, the program graduated 50 students through a curriculum combining distance learning and in-person classes in areas such as hydraulics, electrical systems, mechanics, and ROV (remotely operated vehicle) operations. Part of the activities takes place at the company’s training center.

The results are already reflected in employability: 12 students from the first cohort (2024) were hired as apprentices, creating a direct pathway between technical training and workforce entry.

The educational track also includes initiatives focused on civic development, such as the Elementary School Literary Award, which engaged more than 400 municipal school students in 2025 and results annually in the publication of a collective book produced by the students.

Local development

According to Glaucia Maciel, Seagems’ HR Director, these initiatives are part of a long-term strategy of engagement with the local territory. “We believe that sustainable development is built through the inseparable connection between environment, education, and culture. By supporting large-scale events with structured waste management, encouraging the creative economy, and investing in the training of public school youth, we contribute to a virtuous cycle of growth for the city. Our commitment is to generate real and lasting impact in the communities where we operate.”

With an established presence in the municipality and strategic operations in Brazil’s offshore chain, Seagems reinforces a corporate responsibility model that combines technical expertise, cultural appreciation, and opportunity generation and aims to continue expanding its social legacy in Rio das Ostras and the surrounding region.
