The company, whose organizational culture is founded on the motto “We take care of each other,” is built on the pillars of safety and employee well-being, promoting a healthy and productive interpersonal relationship.
Seagems, a Brazilian company specializing in subsea engineering solutions, was recognized in the 2024 Best Companies to Work For™ Rio de Janeiro Ranking, promoted by Great Place to Work (GPTW) Brazil at an event on Wednesday, July 31. The celebration awarded 80 companies from the state out of 225 competitors. Seagems secured the 13th place among large companies. This marks the sixth consecutive year that the company has been recognized as a GPTW. In addition to the award, Seagems was also recognized as a national highlight in Emotional Health.
“Being in the GPTW ranking reinforces Seagems’ commitment to the safety, well-being, and continuous development of our team, not only demonstrating excellence in operational deliveries, with sustainable and innovative practices, but also taking care of every person who is part of our company,” says Glaucia Maciel, Seagems’ Human Resources Director.
The recognition by Great Place to Work not only celebrates the excellence in employee relations but also highlights the effectiveness of the well-being policies implemented by Seagems. The low historically low turnover rate, as well as this year’s, 3.9%, reflects employee satisfaction. Another proof of success was the invitation Seagems’ HR team received from one of its shareholders, Sapura Energy, to give a lecture on how to be GPTW at an internal event this month in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. There, the discussion focused on continuous opportunities for improvement and active listening to employees.
Highlight in Emotional Health
Seagems was awarded the Emotional Health Highlight seal, an honor that arose from a partnership between Great People Mental Health and Great Place to Work Brazil, aiming to recognize the best organizations in terms of caring for people. Of the 80 companies participating in the state award event, only seven received this recognition.
In 2022, the company had already been recognized as a national highlight in Healthy Management by GPTW, mainly due to its employee care measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, all Seagems professionals, as well as their dependents and parents, are entitled to remote psychological assistance provided by the company through a dedicated program.
For Rubem Falcão, Safety Technician, who completed ten years at Seagems in 2024, the points that stand out to him about Seagems are the ease of communication with everyone, from top management to the deck crew. “It is an innovative company that embraces all challenges and cares about everyone who works here. Even in difficult times, like during the pandemic, it maintained its entire workforce and continued to seek ways to improve our well-being. It is a young company that continues to grow rapidly, competing with leading global companies in the subsea construction industry,” he said.
For Raquel Santos, Laying Operator at Seagems who has been with the company for three years, working at the company is always a source of pride. “I started my journey at the company as a contractor and quickly noticed the excellence in the work environment and the quality of the protective equipment. Seagems provides opportunities; I see this with everyone. People who work hard and give their best are truly recognized and have opportunities. The company does everything, really everything, to make employees feel good, from management to logistics. It’s extraordinary!” she affirmed.
“Seagems gave me so much encouragement to be a good professional, to dedicate myself more each day, that I took the initiative to quit smoking to be able to give more of myself, to have more stamina, to improve my physical condition so that I could deliver more in my work. And all of this, the good things that have happened in my life, is because I want to show more and be recognized. And I always am. By my boss, by the leadership… And I can only be grateful,” concluded the operator.
Great People Mental Health attended the 2024 GPTW Best Companies to Work For Rio de Janeiro awards, highlighting companies on the topic of mental health. For GPMH, recognition of the organizational environment through a highlight is a value that empowers the company’s well-being culture.
Great People Mental Health developed its exclusive tool for interpreting open comments using artificial intelligence in partnership with the research lab of the Great People® Ecosystem, The Turing®, and research groups in the U.S. and Canada, allowing for the analysis of each company’s Emotional Development Stage.
Focus on Care and Well-Being in Management
Adding by Subtracting is an institutional program and philosophy of Seagems, implemented in 2023. Its central proposal is to simplify processes to improve employee productivity and quality of life. To achieve this, Seagems continuously reviews processes, exploring advanced technologies, including AI solutions.
Through the program, the company proposes to optimize workloads (by identifying and eliminating superfluous and non-productive activities), facilitate daily routines (by amplifying work routines to reduce effort and increase efficiency), and continuously improve internal processes, encouraging the adoption of the E.S.S.A. methodology (Eliminate, Simplify, Standardize, and Automate).
Focused on the quality of its professionals’ work life, Seagems recently implemented the Fiter platform, a SaaS software that quarterly measures employees’ “Happiness Pulse” through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and neuroscience concepts. With just eight clicks, employees receive a personalized analysis covering job compatibility, institutional pride, professional performance, work climate, and cultural fit. This tool allows for precise diagnosis, enabling continuous improvements in the work environment and the personal journey of professionals hired by Seagems.
Focus on People
The Seagems team today comprises 1,045 professionals, divided between its vessels and three offices (Rio de Janeiro, Rio das Ostras, and Vienna). In 10 years of operation, the company has conducted 2,314 promotions and level changes for its in-house professionals, who have undergone more than 1,250,000 hours of internal training. Regarding workforce training, 45% of the offshore employees currently working at the company were developed internally to occupy their roles.
“Training a qualified workforce is one of Seagems’ main concerns. This initiative explains the company’s low turnover rate, as nearly 50% of employees have been with the company for over six years. Since 2018, the company has been annually certified as an Great Place To Work by GPTW, always ranked among the best companies in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The safety of these people is also of extreme importance to our operation. In 10 years, Seagems has totaled 3,319 days without accidents or incidents, meaning that more than 91% of our working days can be considered perfect days,” said Rogerio Salbego, CEO of Seagems.
Seagems has its own development program under the acronym SEA – Seagems Excellence Academy, with internally developed didactic material and learning paths with hundreds of planned hours. The SEA also has a training center structured in Rio das Ostras, where the Pipe-Laying and ROV Operation simulators are located, responsible for training more than 400 employees in their areas of expertise.
Regarding diversity, today Seagems has 16% of its workforce composed of women in various positions, both offshore and in leadership roles, representing a 9% increase in female presence in the company since its inception. This percentage clearly positions the company as a pioneer in a traditionally male market, but one that is moving towards greater diversity.
