The Offshore Living concept introduces a new structure of hospitality, gastronomy, convenience, and onboard services for teams that typically spend around 20 days at sea.
Sodexo, a global leader in food services and valued experiences, inaugurated this month its first full Offshore Living operation aboard the vessel Jade, operated by Seagems, a Brazilian subsea engineering company. Designed to enhance the daily routine of crew members working in rotations of 15, 20, and 35 days offshore, the solution brings together gastronomic experiences, space ambiance, hospitality, and convenience, focusing on well-being, comfort, and practicality.
The routine of offshore workers requires constant adaptation: long periods away from family, demanding shifts, and operational dynamics that require continuous attention. In this context, initiatives focused on quality of life are essential for operational safety and performance. The Global Offshore Consumer study conducted by Sodexo shows that 26% of offshore professionals identify healthy food and well-being as their primary need, followed by work-life balance and connection with family, both at 20%.
Initially implemented on the Jade vessel, the initiative expands the traditional concept of offshore hospitality by considering the entire journey of those on board. In practice, the unit now features a revitalized restaurant designed as a social space, in addition to:
- welcome reception
- 24-hour micro market
- hydroponic garden
- scent design in cabins
- standardized signage across different areas
- teams trained in hospitality, providing a new experience from embarkation to disembarkation
“Offshore operations demand that hospitality be an essential part of the work experience. With Offshore Living, we aim to take an integrated view of the onboard journey, combining food, care, comfort, and convenience into a proposition that contributes to team well-being and fosters more engaged, safer, and more productive environments,” says Cinthia Lira, Marketing Director at Sodexo Brazil.
For Seagems, the initiative is also aligned with a broader vision of operational performance.
“Offshore life imposes an intense routine that requires not only technical excellence but also care for people throughout their time on board. We understand that a well-structured routine—one that considers the teams’ daily lives—creates a more stable environment, reduces variables, and ensures everyone’s safety. Our partnership with Sodexo reinforces our commitment to the continuous improvement of operations through employee engagement and a sense of belonging,” explains Lucas Watanabe, Vessel Operations Manager at Seagems.
“I found the renovation very positive. The restaurant is more modern, organized, and functional. The new layout and structural improvements have brought greater comfort and well-being, using elements of nature such as plants. All the changes created a feeling of a Brazilian home,” comments Paulo Victor Silva, Laying Operator at Seagems.
Offshore Living, developed to provide a more complete and human-centered experience, is expected to be gradually expanded to Seagems’ other vessels, with implementation planned for the company’s additional five units.
