Seagems Training Center Celebrates 10 Years and Over $25 Million Invested in Workforce Development

Company is a pioneer with a custom-built laying operations simulator replicating its vessel operations. In 2024 alone, the company provided over 80,000 hours of training.

Seagems, a Brazilian company specializing in subsea engineering solutions, celebrates 10 years of the SEA – Seagems Excellence Academy, its internal training and development program featuring 14 technical training courses. Launched on January 15, 2015, SEA marks its first decade with a cumulative investment of $25 million in employee qualification.

The Seagems Excellence Academy consolidates all professional development and training initiatives within the company, offering proprietary learning materials and training tracks, both virtual and in-person, with hundreds of hours planned for all employees and contractors. SEA also includes a training center located in Rio das Ostras (RJ), equipped with the company’s simulators, which have been instrumental in training hundreds of employees in their respective areas.

Seagems’ workforce currently consists of 1,045 professionals spread across its vessels and three offices (Rio de Janeiro, Rio das Ostras, and Vienna). Over 10 years, the company has facilitated more than 2,500 promotions and level advancements for internal professionals, who have collectively completed over 1 million hours of training.

Regarding workforce development, 45% of offshore employees now working at the company had no prior offshore experience and were trained internally to assume their roles. In 2024, Seagems delivered over 80,000 hours of training, equivalent to more than 10,080 uninterrupted days. “At Seagems, we are committed to developing people. Education and the training of new professionals are part of our core values. We are a company that prioritizes training and focuses on continuous improvement, with education as our market differentiator,” says Glaucia Maciel, the company’s HR Director.

Market-Leading Structure

Since its inception, SEA’s training curriculum has been updated 70 times, reflecting a commitment to keeping pace with market demands. Aurélio Ponec, Training Coordinator at Seagems, highlights that everyone in the company undergoes periodic training, regardless of their position.

“There are mandatory trainings tailored to each employee’s role. Not all of the courses Seagems offers are required by law, but we make them mandatory because we believe they enhance expertise and safety for our professionals. At Seagems, safety always comes first. I like to think our work at SEA is about taking care of each other, sharing knowledge, and striving for continuous improvement, which aligns with the company’s values,” says Ponec. “As a result, we have achieved robust employee expertise, high client satisfaction scores, and have become a model for other companies, helping to set quality training standards,” he adds.

Key training modules for the ROV and Pipe Laying career paths, critical areas in Seagems’ operations, are conducted in person at the SEA headquarters in Rio das Ostras (RJ). The center is a market pioneer, offering training through its simulators, a capability further enhanced by the Maneuver Simulator, which focuses on the company’s Maritime Officer teams and is located at the UFJR university campus.

Commitment to Transformation

In 2024, Seagems also reached a significant milestone by opening the SEA Training Center to the community, delivering over 160 hours of courses to 35 students from state public schools. The first edition of the Seagems Educational Program included 103 hours of online training and 64 hours of in-person instruction at the company’s facilities.

The program featured introductory and basic modules in various fields, along with animations and institutional videos. It emphasized roles like Laying Operator and ROV Pilot, while also covering topics such as Hydraulics, Mechanics, Electronics, and professional dynamics like interpersonal relationships and corporate communication.

According to Glaucia Maciel, Seagems’ HR Director, the company plans to continue investing in employee development in 2025. “We aim to launch new training cohorts for public school students. Our goal is to transform society through knowledge, inclusion, and creating opportunities for even more people,” concludes the director.
